Gun Ban starts January 10 up to June 9, 2010 - Will Malaybalay become safer?

With all the news about violence which is usually perpetuated because of the presence of firearms, a gun ban is most welcome. The problem however is whether or not the terrorists will heed it? Experience tells us crimes continue and the culprits use guns. Where do their guns come from? Were the guns ever confiscated? or is the so-called gun ban only for those who applied for license which make their records public documents? How about the unlicensed and the illegal firearms?

Malaybalay is the capital of Bukidnon Philippines but is a place where one small commotion catches the attention of about everyone. We had our horrifying experience with guns many years ago. Two lovers quarreled and shouted at each other so the policeman was forced to request the man, who was a security guard to tone down his voice. The guard left only to come back, this time with a gun and upon seeing the policeman, shot him. The policeman was so surprised it took him a few minutes to realize he was wounded and before long died. All these many years had passed but the memory lives on, fresh as ever.

Malaybalayan would like some data that the guns are really banned and that these guns are nowhere in sight. We would like to believe that Malaybalay will be safe before and after the gun ban but especially when the gun ban truly works.
