As any traveller, we get used to milling around throngs of strange faces. While it is a given, it should not be the case with passengers in buses who hurl their noises through their big mouths. No wonder, the seasoned sojourners always put on their "head" and "ear" gears. Some wear blank looks and hold in their hands - anything to read.
One look at a train and there is wisdom for having a strategy how to get by. The street smart have done it long ago; they skate through long lines. In some occasions, they have over their heads the most upgraded headphones, music booming through their ears. At other times they play their cds well embossed in a record player that has all the trimmings of modernism.
Thus to get upset over meeting throngs of people and bearing the deluge of noises are really a cover-up of the need for quiet moments. It is a reminder of what we have for as long as this world is not yet the world hereafter. We are pilgrims so even the way to our destination is shrouded with the pangs of ghettoism, alienation and anxiety.
There is great need to look inward and find in our inner selves the invitation to pause and pray.
