Being sixty is definitely a major lifestyle change and a major leap to a change of heart

This blog is part of a series of more blogs that will dwell more lengthily into "sixty-hood" and onwards. May we expect responders from fellow "sixtiers"? or should it be "sexiers"?

At the outset , it has to be said: being sixty is definitely a major lifestyle change and a major leap to a change of heart. Major lifestyle change indeed and what a change. This is experienced physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually and psychologically.

Physically - more aches are experienced; bones seem to sound more easily and loudly at that!
Emotionally - tears come easily and what a flood!
Financially - will retirement money be enough when most of it goes to medicines especially the "maintenance meds"
spiritually - mortality seems inevitable so one's faith becomes one's anchor and great support
psychologically - one's state of life is a period of generativity but there is greater need to belong and be cared for by children and grandchildren

The major leap to a change of heart is seen in the way the senior citizens go about their day to day activities. Somehow every facet has a hindsight. They have been through so many events in life that they can see many perspectives even in the most minute aspect. Usually they look up to God and attribute all these to Providence. Sometimes, they confirm that in many instances life just comes in circles or go up and down and onlyGod remains constant as source of hope and meaning.

Expanded Senior Citizens Act: a most appropriate gift to our "elderly" , Wow!

Philippine President, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed into law the Expanded Senior Citizens Act. To GMA, thank you for caring. Soon I will join this group, come July 1, 2010.

It is sad that nothing is said much about all the senior citizens giving thanks to GMA when before it was signed, they had the energy to hold a demonstration. Why?

The act will take effect 15 days after its signing. By then, all senior citizens will avail of 20% discount on all goods and services. What a great help!!!What a most appropriate gift to our lola, lolo, auntie, uncle, papa and mama. . .

While we may or may not vote for Pia Cayetano, we have to thank the good senator for authoring such a law. And to think she is still very young! She is raised well by her parents.
