When the brand of your laptop matters . . .

My computer is a gift so the brand does not matter.  However, the whole day made me squirm at the insinuation given by our compu technician: that my laptop does not have enough range to capture the "wifi" connection. My colleagues who were using other brands had the "range". Agghh. . . is this by chance a valid reason? Can Neo, my computer brand accept this? If anyone is from Neo,can you allow this impression go unchallenged? Do I have to regret why I chose Neo because it is bright red and really cute?
