America is really America so even the Colorado suspect is presumed innocent

The blogs are countless in unison saying the suspect, James Holmes, must be grotesque and already guilty of murdering so many people - after all 12 have been declared dead and dozens more in hospitals either still being treated or God forbid, declared dead. While this has been allowed to be expressed, the authorities are very careful about remarks that immediately become declarative. In America, even a suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

While this was the status quo, the victims and witnesses are seen either very candid with their feelings or manifest extreme pain for their loss. Even the elderly cannot help but wince that indeed we have to respect this legal principle but the gnawing pain strikes the core of your being.

Amidst the terrible incident are heroes and these are either for their children or for their loved ones who at the time of the shocking situation are with them.

Perhaps in time we can also open our hearts to this principle: to presume someone innocent until proven guilty. But does this truly apply with James Holmes who not only said he had more weapons in his car and had booby traps in his apartment?
