When this blogger was younger, never in her wildest dreams did she have an idea how to think and live as an elderly. Life went on and before she could even ask how it happened, she turned fifty then sixty and now about to be 63. How the years passed by so quickly. So the question is inevitable: being an elderly and senior citizen has its ups and downs, what is more - ups or downs? I can only speak for myself and without hesitation, I declare, it has more ups than downs.
You see, ups for this blogger is tantamount to the Elderly blows and the downs are the Elderly blues. What are the reasons why we declare there are more blows than blues in an elderly and senior citizen's life. One, she met her better half when she was 26 and in the 20 years of married life, she has four talented and loving children. Two, the 20-year married life would leave her a widow and responsible to take care of the four children up to their college years by herself. Three, the children are now in their early thirties and late twenties and she could only be awed at how well-rounded and generous the children have grown. Four, at 62, life is bonus time yet she is open to more opportunities to begin her own flower and herbal plantation and continue serving the Girl Scouts of the Philippines movement as a volunteer. Five, she has remained energetic and vivacious so the others would describe her and at 65, retire with graciousness. Six, she intends to be financially independent but ever eager to be around to serve her children who have not yet decided to settle down by cooking for them when possible and visiting them to see how things are and if possible, starting some form of business venture if the time is ripe.
Thus, fellow elderly and senior citizens, we are no different from the so-called young and on-the-go. Let us seize the moments that come our way. Stay beautiful and handsome, whether physically or spiritually. Let us not worry what's more, ups or downs or blows or blues for life is what we make of it. Smile and God speed.
