The Philippines had floods one after the other, the most recent being "Pedring", "Quiel" and "Ramon" - so this time it is Thailand, so who's next?
For the elderly, floods are not ordinary sights especially in those years when the environment was at its best. Through the years, many decided to cut trees without re-planting and it was too late to realize that every tree counts. The consequence of man's indiscretion is now all these floods that even the best of man's infrastructures cannot contain.
Elderly blues: With all talks about pollution, deforestation and denudation, man has to accept the responsibility to do something with this one earth that needs its due care before the next flood is in your own place. For the elderly, it is not too late to plant a seed, a seedling right in your own backyard. From this blogger's travels, some observations came to mind. In other Asian countries, there are no backyards to talk about because many of them live in condominiums. Their contribution must be seen in the way they cooperate with the government's efforts to preserve the trees that line their streets. Sometimes one is awed at the shapes of the plants which now become tourist attractions as well.
Elderly blows: With age, one becomes more introspective and optimistic. Even floods become points to ponder upon. Time is now so while the past has shown how people abused this one place we live in, called the earth, there is always hope for better things ahead. Any possibility to plant now is always a welcome move so begin in your own home, in your own little farm. Why not plant in pots as done even by chefs. Have you seen them on tv, get their ingredients, direct from their pots right there near the kitchen or in their yard. What a good move. Do your share and before you know it, even your being elderly becomes a more enjoyable state, more reflective and productive. Do it now!
So typhoons may come and go and the next victims can be anyone but even this calamity can be a way to transcend its negativity and focus on its reminder that this life is given to humanity. The question is no longer, who's next but What can we do better to prevent it or minimize it from coming back too soon?
