In Davao City Philippines, every opportunity they can inform the elderly and the differently-abled that if they take the cab they have 20% discount. Right inside the taxi are big signs about it. Yet in Cagayan de Oro City Philippines, not one taxi has the sign. So we dared ask the driver, if they offer 20% discount and he was bewildered as to what it was all about.
For some details, this logger visited Google.com and opened the site which talked about discounts for senior citizens. Immediately we were referred to R.A. 9994 known as the "Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.From now on this should be the "bible" for all the elderly because much is offered to make the lives of the citizens more comfortable and esteemed. Read it fellow senior citizens.
Just to make sure, who are considered senior citizens in Philippine context? Any resident of the Philippines at least sixty (60) years old. This reminds of the situation we observed in Hongkong whereby for them the elderly is sixty-five years old and above (correct?)
So what is the elderly blue? When the indicated lodging, medical, dental, transportation services do not take the initiative to inform the elderly should they come to their establishments. It only goes to say that if the elderly does not know the benefits then it is to the advantage of the establishment. After all they can also claim they do not know of such national laws. It is up to the elderly then to arm herself with such information.
What then is the elderly blow? To be vigilant especially when the benefits are worth your attention and financial comfort and advantage. Fellow elderly, are we one in this drive to inform our fellow senior citizens?
Let us see . . .
